(news & commentary)

South Korean lens maker Samyang has long had a series of their lenses that could work with the E-mount. Today Samyang announced that they've reworked five of their lenses for direct compatibility with the E-mount (including full electronic aperture support with aperture ring set to E), and which cover the full frame necessary for A7/A7r cameras (e.g. FE-mount compatible). The lenses are:

  • 14mm f/2.8 (above)
  • 24mm f/1.4
  • 24mm f/3.5 tilt/shift (below)
  • 35mm f/1.4
  • 85mm f/1.4

These are all manual focus lenses, and since they were originally designed for full frame DSLRs, tend to be large and heavy. But they do open up some new options for early A7 and A7r adopters. Prices and full specifications haven't been released yet, but should be available shortly.
