- Thom's Comment: Sony has now produced four different full frame 35mm lenses. While originally Sony was leaning on Zeiss for optical design, Sony's own G and GM designs are now in full swing, and tend to be the preferred models when multiples exist at a specification. Sony promotes this lens for its bokeh and spherical aberration control, while still being a reasonable small and light lens for its aperture specification. This is the third f/1.4 GM prime, and I expect Sony to continue to fill out a more complete set of such lenses in the future. The 24mm and 85mm have proven to be quite excellent lenses, and I expect this one is, as well.
