Tamron is a well-known third party lens manufacturer for DSLRs, located in Japan, and is now beginning to release lenses for mirrorless cameras. Sony is one of the largest investors in Tamron. Tamron is credited for designing and popularizing the first "superzoom" (the 28-200mm for film SLRs), so it’s not surprising that their initial mirrorless offerings are also “superzooms.”
Sony is one of Tamron's largest shareholders.
