Thom's Commentary: The best full-frame (FX) budget lens Nikon has ever produced. Bar none. Note that S-line branding. Yes, this lens lives up to that, despite the fact that it is often regarded as the “kit lens” for some cameras. At the bundled-with-body prices you sometimes see, this lens is nothing short of a real bargain. You’ll find no real optical faults in this lens, though the f/2.8 version showed us that Nikon could do more. Still, the first time I photographed with this lens, I was scratching my head when looking at the results: was I seeing things, or was this kit lens that good? Well, it’s that good. Funny thing is, so many of these were produced and Nikon managed to upsell so many folk who got this lens in a kit, you can often find excellent copies on eBay for Buy It Now prices under US$300. Not that I generally recommend buying used lenses, but bargains are bargains, just watch out for the eBay Gremlins. Recommended Read Thom's Full Review of the Nikon 24-70mm f/4 Lens
