Welcome to sansmirror.
As part of making sense of a sprawling photography Web presence (see the additional links in the footer at the bottom of this page), we launched this second site, dedicated to the so-called mirrorless cameras, in 2011. Prior to that, we had been covering them on the bythom.com site since 2009.
These small, sophisticated mirrorless cameras have come to supplement and sometimes replace the larger DSLRs that we've covered since 1999. One of the things that was happening on my old, single site was that it was trying to do too much in one place. That was also holding back a significant site-redevelopment project, too, as the constant adding of more compact and mirrorless camera information to an already huge site was resulting in more things needing to be done on a new site design faster than I could deal with them.
No longer. Sansmirror is specifically for those cameras with no good name. Call them mirrorless, call them SILC (small interchangeable lens camera), call them EVIL (electronic viewfinder interchangeable lens), call them...well, you get the idea: they still don't yet have a great name that's standardized in everyone's minds, even over a decade after appearing. The camera makers don't always seem to be in agreement on what to call them, either. Some makers call them compact system cameras. But none of them have a mirror, thus the site name sans mirror.
We hope you enjoy this site, and let us know how we're doing from time to time.
