A few recent odds and ends that weren’t necessarily worthy of individual posts that you should know about:
- The promised free Olympus Capture Software that allows tethered control and shooting is now out.
- Like a lot of camera products these days* the E-M1 firmware is getting hacked.
- The PDF version of the E-M1 manual has been updated to include the new 2.0 firmware features.
- Olympus has put up new information for the upcoming 300mm f/4 and 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lenses. Both are scheduled for release in 2015.
- Panasonic updated the firmware for the GH4 to version 2.0. In this update is a new 4K Photo mode, 100Mbps 4K/24 recording in the MP4 format, focus performance improvements, and support for USB remote tethering (via a third party program (USB Tether by Promote).
* At this point, we have hackers working on various Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Panasonic firmware. At what point will the camera developers actually figure out that they could enable this creative extension of their gear rather than tolerate it (best case)?
